
The threat of a summer holiday, and baring your body after months of comfort food and woolly layers is often enough to spur people into improving their eating habits and taking up some exercise. If this applies to you, there are a few things that you can start doing right now to help you kick-start a wellness plan in time for Summer so you can feel more confident in your bikini/trunks.
- Get moving!!!! If you are not doing at least 30 minutes of exercise 3 to 5 days a week, you should have a rethink if you want to get in shape for summer and also protect your long-term health. You don’t have to hit the gym if that’s not your thing or you find it difficult to schedule – there are plenty of other options such as getting out into the garden (play with the kids!), going for a good walk, doing some housework (no, not my idea of fun either!) or following a DVD/online exercise class. There are plenty of different workouts that can be purchased online or even downloaded for free – links to some of my favourites are on the right of this page.
- Take a look at your diet – what are you eating and drinking? Try keeping a food diary for a few days – write down EVERYTHING you consume – you may be surprised! If your food doesn’t constitute a healthy balanced diet, then you should start making changes now. - Drink plenty of water – yes, you’ve heard it all before, but if you are STILL not drinking 8 large glasses of water a day, you need to start increasing the amount you drink today!! Picture a plant that hasn’t had enough water – wilting, brown leaves, and looking pretty sad … that is what you are doing to yourself when you get dehydrated! By drinking adequate water, your body will start to function more efficiently, your skin will improve, you will find you don’t overeat as much and it even helps to strengthen your back!!!!! ( The cartilage between the bones in your spine absorbs water and helps to cushion the bones when you pick up something heavy or if you weight-train!) And you will need a strong back for the next point…
- Check your posture. Not only will it make all the difference to the way you look on the beach, but there are many health benefits to proper posture. Additionally you will appear more confident and feel greater sense of self-esteem! Suffering from any cellulite problem should not be something that you run out and have surgery over and if you are considering doing so please make sure that you thoroughly research the risks first. Also make sure that you are going through a doctor that is board certified at what he does and always ask others who they might recommend. Cellulite can be reduced by changing some things in your life and doing things just a little bit differently.
