Q: Does dry skin cause wrinkles?
A: Dry skin doesn’t create wrinkles – it just makes them more noticeable. Wrinkles are the result of aging, sun damage, smoking and repetitive facial movements such as smiling, frowning or squinting. Well-hydrated skin decreases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the skin. The better hydrated your skin is, the firmer and smoother it appears.

The Herbalife NouriFusion Multivitamin Normal to Dry System is perfect for dry skin. The Skin Activator anti-aging line is excellent in combating fine lines and wrinkles.

Q: Do all sunscreens with SPF 15 prevent wrinkles?
A: Products containing sunscreens with UVA/UVB Broad Spectrum protection help prevent sunburn and wrinkles. All of Herbalife’s SPF products contain both UVA /UVB protection. It’s the UVA protection that shields the skin from the damaging rays of the sun that age the skin.

Herbalife’s NouriFusion and Skin Activator facial moisturizers contain Parsol 1789†, a revolutionary UVA sunscreen that protects the skin from both the long and short UVA rays of the sun. This same ingredient is found in the Radiant C Body Lotion with SPF 15 for all-over, daily protection.

Q: What is Glucosamine and does it help reduce the appearance of wrinkles?
A: The entire Skin Activator line is formulated with a unique, gentle, non-acid Glucosamine Complex, which helps enhance collagen production, aid hydration, repair weak and damaged skin cells and firm skin.

Independent clinical studies on the UGL Glucosamine Complex in Skin Activator show a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by as much as 57% after just 3 months!*¹

If you’d like to see how the Herbalife Outer Nutrition range can help the appearance of your skin, please contact us for more information or you can just TRY some of our products for yourself!

I found an interesting story on the Daily Mail website and BBC Health News today that I wanted to share, as many of my clients originally started taking the Herbalife products as part of a healthy lifestyle in preparation for pregnancy (we have several babies on the way in the next few months!!) For all current clients who are intending to get pregnant, and have some fertility issues, this may be of interest:

Just four cups of coffee a day could significantly reduce a woman’s chances of having a baby, research suggests. A study of hundreds of women revealed that those who drank four or more cups of coffee a day were 26 per cent less likely to have a baby.

The startling figures - revealed at a fertility conference - are comparable to the damage done by drinking, smoking or being overweight.Dutch researchers followed the health and habits of 9,000 women who had been through IVF treatment, including some 1,350 who fell pregnant naturally after the treatment ended.

The analysis showed those who drank four or more cups of coffee a day were 26 per cent less likely to have gone on to have a baby. Having three or more alcoholic drinks a week had the same effect, the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology’s annual conference in Barcelona heard today. Being overweight cut the chances of having a baby by 29 per cent, while smoking cut the odds by more than a third.

The study, carried out at Radboud University in Nijmegen, comes in the wake of research showing that even small amounts of caffeine can double a woman’s risk of miscarriage.

And from the BBC article some cautions about the findings:

However, some experts warned that the findings of the study had to be examined with caution. Fiona Ford, of the Centre for Pregnancy Nutrition, said: “Whilst the results of this study are interesting, there are evidently limitations to these findings as post IVF patients are a selective group who have already experienced problems with conception.

“There is nothing within this study that provides a reason to change guidance to patients.” She cited previous research which said there was no “convincing support” for the claim that coffee was linked to delayed conception.

Fertility expert Professor Bill Ledger, from the University of Sheffield, said caffeine could potentially have a mild, but toxic, effect on ovaries and sperm which could be a problem for those with poor fertility. But he added: “A lot of women can have 20 cups of coffee a day and get pregnant while falling off a log, but if you’re already subfertile it could push you over the edge. “It is only a problem if you are subfertile and you overdose.”

Zoe Wheeldon, from the British Coffee Association, said: “There is no need to cut caffeine or coffee out of the diet completely, scientific evidence demonstrates that for pregnant women or those trying to conceive up to 300mg of caffeine per day is perfectly safe.”

If you are looking to get fit and would like some recommendations for natural, effective products that will help you to safely manage your energy levels and reduce your reliance on caffiene to get you through the day, please feel free to contact us for a free consultation on how our Herbalife product range can help you.
I published Emma C’s before and “half-way” pictures a few days ago. This is what Emma had to say about her decision to use Herbalife, how she is finding it, and her results so far:

I am getting married in December this year and don’t want to be a fat bride so knew it was time to get serious about losing weight!! I was in a position where my weight was spiraling out of control, I was wearing size 20/22 clothes and doing no exercise, skipping meals and sitting at a desk from dawn til’ dusk! When I did eat, my portion sizes were enormous and I would end up finishing other people’s food! Shocking!

When I first spoke to Sarah and she mentioned Herbalife, I was a little skeptical, I had tried loads of diets in the past and never managed to stick to them…..(I have zero willpower!!)…Sarah explained how Herbalife works and made it sound easy!! 5 months on, I have to say - IT IS EASY!!!

I started Herbalife in the middle of January and have managed to stick to it ever since, in fact I can’t imagine not having shakes!! I have fallen into a good routine with it and stick to it 100% during the week but then allow myself a cheeky glass or 3 of wine at the weekend and still go out for meals. I have learned that it is all about choices….I phoned Sarah once after a particularly bad weekend and said that I had been bad…..”ah, but have you?” she said…..She asked if I had been as bad as I would have been before Herbalife - “No way” I said!!!! (I had been to Wagamamma’s and had Edamame, Chicken Itame and Sorbet for desert. In the past I would have had Deep fried prawns, Fried Noodles and Cheesecake!!!!)

My Daily Routine

I have a Formula 1 Shake and my supplements for breakfast - Usually just a plain strawberry flavour with skimmed milk & Personalised Protein Powder, a piece of fruit or low fat snack mid morning and then my tablets and another shake for lunch - I tend to put a banana and raspberries or strawberries in this one - I like to vary it!!!!, I usually don’t eat anything then until I have my dinner. I don’t feel hungry anymore, the shakes fill you up for hours! I even manage to resist the biscuits & cakes that my work colleagues seem to eat every afternoon!!

When is comes to dinner, It seems strange but since using Herbalife products, Paul and I have actually started to get more adventurous with our meals!! It is the only “solid” meal we have in a day so we like to make the most of it!!!! We have however, cut our portion sizes down and try not to eat too many carbohydrates late at night.

I also swear by Thermogetics (Herbal Beverage) - It is fab!!! I have a cup with hot water in lemon first thing in the morning and then have it with squash throughout the day. I have more recently started to take Thermo Complete , these have helped to speed up my weight-loss and when I feel the need to snack, I take one and the urge goes away!

I drink 1 - 2 litres of water a day and as a result of this and using the Herbalife products, my skin is so much better than it used to be, I have more energy and feel great!!! I said it before but I really can’t imagine life without my shakes!! I am now wearing size 16 / 18 clothes and have recently ordered my wedding dress - Size 14!!! - Bring it on!! - Hopefully they will have to take it in by December!

I am thrilled to be able to share with you a progress update on Emma C & Paul who are half way to their December Wedding and have completely changed their lifestyles since January when they started using Herbalife Weight Loss Programmes and taking regular exercise.

There are so many before and after pictures to choose from, I didn’t know which to pick so here is a small selection! (Different pictures will be on the front page of our online store in the next few days!)

Before (January)

Click on any of these pictures to enlarge

Half-way (June)

In summary, since they started on their Programmes:

Paul has reduced his body fat percentage from 44% to 28% and lost a total of 20 cms from around his collar, chest and waist! I think he looks incredible!

Emma has lost an amazing 77 cms from her bust, waist, hips, thighs and arms!!!! A healthy, steady weight loss has also been maintained so that Emma is well on track for her 5 stone weight loss goal before her December wedding - I am SO excited to see what she looks like then, as she’s already looking fantastic (and I know she’s been out buying smaller jeans!)!!!

I want to take this opportunity to say a huge WELL DONE! Paul has had a number of sporting injuries this year and it hasn’t always been easy for them to follow their programmes to the letter as they are very sociable and active people who both work long hours and have to exercise (and eat!) late. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK, GUYS!!!!

To find out more about the Herbalife Programmes we put together for Emma & Paul, please feel free to contact us for information.

Since Jacquie Carter’s training in March about the importance of caring for our largest organ, I have indeed been taking good care of my skin - it has been a rare exception to miss my daily cleanse, tone and moisturise routines (morning and evening) as well as other weekly exfoliating treatments and masks etc.

The results so far are very encouraging - my skin is much clearer and radiant-looking and I have stopped wearing foundation every day which I had done for years to cover up my skin - I am sure this is helping my skin even further. (Unfortunately years of neglect, sun-damage and acne have left my face scarred and freckled and I don’t think there is much that can be done about that, but we’ll see…)

I recently contacted Jacquie to ask her a few more questions about acne-prone skin and was interested to hear some new tips that she was kind enough to pass on so I’m sharing them with you here, I hope you will find them helpful: Acne can be a genetic issue a hormonal issue, so many different causes….even certain medications can flare up acne. We tend to stress out over breakouts only making them worse. It’s a true catch 22.

Acne is a condition that has so many contributing factors it is hard to determine what to do. [As well as the Skin Care and Cellular Nutrition] I would suggest including Herbalifeline to get some Omega’s into the system.

Introduce exfoliating into your routine gradually. Many breakouts are due to tiny skin particles becoming trapped beneath excess oil and ultimately being pushed into a pore. The pore becomes clogged and bacteria begins to build beneath the skin resulting in a breakout. By exfoliating regularly you can remove the skin particles from your face so they don’t get trapped and embedded into your pores.

Most acne cases can take up to 3 to 4 months to treat. You have to unclog the pore, control the bacteria and reduce the inflammation. It can be quite challenging.

Make sure you wash off your telephones and your cell phone. Many people get breakouts on one side of their face due to bacteria found on their telephones. Clean them regularly.

Make sure your hair is clean. Our hair is a big transfer area for oil and impurities so you need to make sure it is washed regularly. If your hair hangs in your face at all try to pull it back while you sleep to avoid any transfer of oil or debris.

Change your pillow cases frequently. Any existing bacteria on your skin is being transferred to your pillow case when you sleep so change them regularly to stop the back and forth of bacteria and oils.

Herbalife Distributor training teaches the importance of all-round health and well-being. It’s about intelligent nutrition as a core element of a healthy active lifestyle, including exercise AND relaxation - all of which give great health benefits, for body and mind.

Over the last few months I have become increasingly interested in the health benefits of meditation, and thought I’d share a few of them with you, as listed on www.healthandyoga.com

Though meditation is usually recognized as a largely spiritual practice, it also has many health benefits. The yoga and meditation techniques are being implemented in management of life threatening diseases; in transformation of molecular and genetic structure; in reversal of mental illnesses, in accelerated learning programs, in perceptions and communications beyond the physical, in solving problems and atomic and nuclear physics; in gaining better ecological understanding; in management of lifestyle and future world problems. Some benefits of meditation are:

it lowers oxygen consumption

it decreases respiratory rate

it increases blood flow and slows the heart rate

increases exercise tolerance in heart patients

leads to a deeper level of relaxation

good for people with high blood pressure as it brings B.P. to normal

reduces anxiety attacks by lowering the levels of blood lactate

decreases muscle tension (any pain due to tension) and headaches

builds self-confidence

it increases serotonin production which influences mood and behaviour. Low levels of serotonin are associated with depression, obesity insomnia and headaches

helps in chronic diseases like allergies, arthritis etc

reduces Pre-menstrual Syndrome

helps in post-operative healing

enhances the immune system. Research has revealed that meditation increases the activity of ‘natural-killer cells’, which kill bacteria and cancer cells

also reduces activity of viruses and emotional distress

As someone who loves travelling to different places, taking it easy and sampling plenty of local food and wine, I can relate to those who find it a challenge to maintain their weight while they are on holiday. This can be particularly difficult for people who have been exercising and eating sensibly in the run up to their trip and then find themselves in an all-inclusive resort, or with a group of friends who generally eat and drink a lot more than they do!

Having just returned from a holiday in Portugal without putting on weight, I thought I’d share the ” four simple rules” that I follow to avoid gaining weight when travelling…

ALWAYS EAT A NUTRITIOUS BREAKFAST: For me, this means having my Herbalife Formula 1 shake (also available in convenient sachets!). Eating well at the start of the day gets my metabolism going, gives me energy and also reduces/delays the inclination to binge on fattening snacks - my personal demon - even when they seem to be everywhere! (An article in the news today also shows that people trying to lose weight do better when they eat a good breakfast!)

SELECT THE “RIGHT” FOOD WHEN EATING OUT: It can be very difficult to know what to order from a menu when there is no nutritional information available. Try to eat fresh fruit, fish, salads and vegetables as much as you can and avoid too much dressing if you don’t know what’s in it - ask for it on the side, rather than drizzled!! As a rule of thumb grilled steaks, kebabs, grilled fish, chicken, stir fries and dry curries are generally reasonable options. (Beware of “all inclusive” buffets - it’s very tempting to pile your plate high to get your money’s worth!) If you are a sucker for sweet or salty snacks, pack some of our high protein snacks - they satisfy the craving and keep you feeling full for longer!

KEEP WELL - HYDRATED: Drinking plenty of water helps me to feel great and also less likely to snack or to drink calorific alcoholic drinks such as wine and beer. I always make sure I drink several glasses of Thermojetics Instant Herbal Beverage to keep my body’s energy production going throughout the day (it mixes really nicely in water or fruit juice, so there is always something to have it in) as well as at least 2 litres of water. If you ARE drinking alcohol, try alternating water with your chosen tipple - I always do this and find it’s not just good for reducing the amount of alcohol-related calories I consume, it’s great for avoiding hang-overs too!

GET MOVING!: Running around after my toddler, pushing a pushchair and being on permanent “life-guard” duty (even when there’s no water in sight!) is enough to keep me active for most of the day wherever I am, but even if you’re lucky enough to be on a chill-out holiday there is usually plenty of time to get moving and take some exercise, whether it’s enjoying the organised sports or just going for a long walk or a swim.

Following these simple rules, and using their Herbalife products in a revised way for weight-maintenance, my clients usually return from their holiday without putting on any weight. Those who over-indulge (usually in alcohol) may find they put on a pound or two but quickly lose it once they are back on their Weight Loss programme. They are in control of their weight and health, rather than it being in control of them!

If you would like to find out more about the Herbalife product range and how SK Nutrition can help you to put together a suitable plan whatever your wellness goals, please contact us for a consultation. (Our “Holiday Kits promotion” is also available for a limited period!)

Happy Holidays!

Sarah

Before I start, let me tell you upfront that this post has NOTHING to do with nutrition but a whole lot to do with feeling good so I thought I’d share it with you anyway - you can even get a discount at the moment!

It all started when I bought my toddler a pair of Crocs shoes for our forthcoming holiday and he wouldn’t take them off! (He even slept in them the first day!!) After a few days, Damian (my husband) and I started to wonder what was so great about them, and ordered some for ourselves - just for our holiday, of course. I must be honest and say that when they arrived and I took them out of the packaging, I gulped at how wide, large and PINK they looked (I bought the Cayman in Fuschia for myself), but the minute I tried them on I didn’t care how they looked. They are FAB!

I have the beginnings of a bunion (although I don’t often wear heels and never shoes that pinch!!!!!) and I’ve had lower back pain since I was pregnant two years ago and usually struggle to find shoes that don’t exacerbate this, but since I have been wearing the Crocs, my feet are VERY happy and my back isn’t hurting at the end of the day, all of which means I am happy!

A few weeks on and we’re all practically living in them - they are just so comfortable. I have had to get another pair in light blue so I can wear them with jeans (so much for our “holiday beach shoes”!!) We’ve also ordered several pairs for other members of the family and friends who loved them when they tried ours - including my grandmother who is waiting for an operation on her foot and hasn’t been able to find any shoes that she can walk in comfortably for over 2 years. (She couldn’t believe it when she put on my shoe, it easily accommodated the swollen area, and didn’t give any pressure.)

If you fancy trying a pair, I’d happily recommend the lovely people at Sweetfeet Shoes, who stock the full range of styles and colours, and delivery from them has been REALLY quick (some arrived next day even though we chose standard free UK delivery!). Click on the link below to access their site - there is a 10% sale on some of the styles at the moment (inc. the “Cayman” pictured) and after your first order you get a discount on future purchases!

ENJOY!
